First post!

Today I finally went through my sewing stash and took inventory of everything I had. WIPs, leftover fabric, leftover batting...all of it.

Turns out I have 13 WIPs, two large stacks of fabric, a bunch of leftover binding, a much smaller collection of precuts than I expected, and a giant bin of scraps that still needs to be sorted and trimmed. Not to mention I probably have enough batting scraps to put together at least 1 quilt.

I decided that I need to sew down my WIP pile before I'm allowed to start any new projects or buy any new fabric. Loophole: I can still buy new fabric, so long as it is something I need to finish a WIP. For example, I haven't finished placemats I made for my mom because I started to run out of materials...like the white fabric I used for sashing or the blue fabric I used for the back, or the polka dots that I used for binding.

I decided to go with the Lori Holt method of organizing scraps and will sort everything into 1.5", 2.5", or 3.5" scraps. I think I also have a bunch of 5" scraps from a few projects, so maybe I'll make that another category too. But before I start sewing again, I want to get things in order with my stash so that it's a lot easier to maintain as I go. That, and I noticed that I sometimes think I run out of fabric in the middle of a project, when in reality it was just lost because I have no real organizational system.

After I figure that out, then I'm going to tackle my WIPs. Probably curtains first and pillows too. Then I want to finish everything I owe my mom. And then whenever I'm finished all that, I'll work on whichever seasonal project is needed at the time (I have Halloween and Christmas in my pile).

That's all for now! Hopefully starting this blog will help me to stay accountable!
